Murtha says:

I wouldn't join military now. Heady stuff. The Democrats should embrace this guy as Cockburn argues. He has the credibility and the balls.

Weren't you calling this guy pathetic in November?

I think he misreads his party. I really don't think they will embrace his message or the messenger because they are trying to keep the "patriots" happy.

If the party was at all interested in doing the right thing they would hitch their pony to this guy because he is so close to the miltary. It actually might be a good way to split the Republican coalition.

They are not however because, like Kerry and Clinton, they want to seem "reasonable" and look like they can govern.

I also think Murtha underestimates the foreign policy establishment even though he has some allies in the armed forces. The idea of "credibility" is standard currency across the board for those who count in US international relations. They actually believe that the US must maintain imperial armies in Iraq and elsewhere because otherwise people around the world might think we are going soft.

As if the policy of fighting two wars at once, myriad of weapons and spy satelites in space, air/naval/army bases on EVERY CONTINENT and hundreds of invasions over the last 100 years have been forgotten, yikes!
